The GSA Labour Relations Committee (GSA LRC) supports the Associate Vice-President Labour (AVPL) by advising on the Collective Agreement (CA) and assisting in the appointment and training of faculty stewards. Members provide valuable feedback on employment experiences and engage with stewards to address workplace issues, playing a key role in ensuring that academically-employed graduate students are informed and represented within the GSA.

Chief Steward

The Chief Steward is trained in all areas of labour work, they arrange regular meetings of the steward network and ensure a solid communication system, and they collaborate with members of the executive committee of graduate student groups to maintain the steward network. This position works to ensure the proper application of the current Collective Agreement by both the employer and the union, and they report on all activities to the Labour Relations Committee and at General Membership meetings. The Chief Steward is a non-voting member of the Labour Relations Committee.

Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator organizes activities to engage with union members. Some examples include: tabling, town halls, information sessions, and awareness campaigns. This position liaises with departments and other groups to provide training and workshops. In addition, they report on their activities to the Labour Relations Committee and at General Membership meetings. The Outreach Coordinator is a non-voting member of the Labour Relations Committee.

Faculty Stewards

The Labour Relations Committee has seats for faculty stewards across many departments. Faculty Stewards are trained in labour work and are often the first point of contact for student employees who might be having work-related issues. Stewards assist the Chief Steward and the Associate Vice-President Labour with anything to do with the Collective Agreement. Faculty Stewards are non-voting members of the Labour Relations Committee.
